Founding & History

Zadorozhnyy Academy was established in 2020 as the private educational institution of the Zadorozhnyy family. What began as a commitment to educate our own children with intentionality and care has developed into a structured academic program with defined curricula, formal recordkeeping, and progression through elementary and secondary grades.

The Academy operates in Walterboro, South Carolina, under the provisions of South Carolina Code §59-65-47, which recognizes home educational programs supervised by approved third-party accountability associations as legally sufficient to satisfy the state's compulsory attendance requirements.

Educational Philosophy

Our approach draws from three complementary traditions: the classical liberal arts, the Christian intellectual heritage, and the family as the natural first school of the child. We believe genuine education is not the transmission of information alone but the formation of the whole person — mind, character, and conviction — for a life of faithful service, clear thinking, and disciplined work.

We reject the notion that education is neutral. Every curriculum reflects a worldview. Ours is explicitly Christian, and we select materials that are academically serious, intellectually coherent, and consistent with the historic teaching of the Christian faith.

Truth is not the property of any age or people. It is the object of learning and the end toward which all study is rightly directed.

Our Commitments

Academic Rigor

Curriculum is selected for depth, not merely coverage. Students engage material at grade level or above, with mastery expected before advancement.

Formation of Character

Discipline, honesty, diligence, and reverence are cultivated alongside academic skill. Character is not incidental to education; it is its purpose.

Christian Foundation

Instruction is grounded in a biblical worldview. Scripture, doctrine, and Christian moral tradition inform how subjects are taught and integrated.

Classical Method

Emphasis on grammar, logic, and rhetoric across the developmental stages, with careful attention to language, history, and the liberal arts.

Heritage & Language

The Zadorozhnyy family maintains active Russian language instruction and cultural literacy alongside the standard American educational program.

Family Integration

Education happens within the natural setting of family life. Parents are the primary teachers, supported by outside curricula and instructors as needed.

Administration

The Academy is administered by Max Zadorozhnyy, who serves as its founding administrator. Day-to-day instruction and academic supervision are carried out in cooperation with the family, drawing on outside distance-learning programs, tutors, and enrichment providers as appropriate to each subject.
